# Heading

> A heading in five sizes, with its own HTML tag for search engines and screen readers, its own alignment and a maximum line length that keeps long titles readable.

Tally theme documentation · HTML version: https://themelab.page/tally/docs/blocks/heading/

## At a glance

- **In the editor:** Heading
- **Where it goes:** The Section section and inside Groups
- **Settings:** 5

## Size and tag are separate

**Size** decides how the heading looks – *Extra large* to *Extra small*. **HTML tag** decides what it means – *h1* to *h4*, or a plain *Paragraph* for a large line that is not a heading. Search engines and screen readers read the tag, so:

- Keep **one h1 per page**, usually the page title or the hero headline.
- Use **h2** for section headings and **h3** for headings inside them.
- Make the size whatever looks right – a small *h2* or a large *h3* are both fine.

## Options

- **Alignment:** *Like the section*, or left, center or right for this block only.
- **Maximum width:** 10–60 characters. Long titles break into balanced lines instead of running across the page; 20–30 is a comfortable headline width.
- Headings follow **Theme settings › Typography**: the heading font, size, letter spacing, line height and uppercase setting.

The heading text accepts bold, italic and links.
