# Cart

> The cart drawer and cart page, the free shipping bar with a second goal, add-ons, gift wrapping, discount codes, a terms checkbox and the shipping estimator.

Most cart options are in **Theme settings › Cart** because they apply to both the drawer and the cart page. The cart page itself is the **Cart** section on the cart template.

## Drawer or page

- **Cart type:** a *Drawer* that slides in from the side, or a *Page* at `/cart`.
- **Open drawer after adding to cart:** when off, shoppers stay where they are and see a short "Added to cart" message instead (see **Theme settings › Currency and extras**).
- **Main drawer button:** the large button in the drawer opens the cart page (*View cart*) or goes straight to *Checkout*. The other one shows as a text link under it.
- **Show accelerated checkout in drawer:** adds Shop Pay, Apple Pay and the other express buttons to the drawer.
- **Show order note:** a field for a note to the store, such as delivery instructions.

## Free shipping bar

A bar in the cart that fills up as the cart grows: "Spend $12 more for free shipping".

- **Free shipping threshold** is a number in your store's default currency, without the symbol. It is not converted: shoppers who browse in another currency see the bar count to the same number in their currency. If you sell in several currencies, set a free shipping rate per market and keep this number in line with your main market.
- The bar only shows a message; **set up the free shipping rate itself** in **Settings › Shipping and delivery** (a rate with a minimum order price) with the same amount.
- A free shipping discount code fills the bar and says that shipping is free with that code.

### Second goal

**Second goal** adds a goal after free shipping, for example "Spend $40 more to get a free gift". **Second goal reward** completes the sentence. Give the reward itself with a Shopify discount (**Discounts › Create discount**, for example *Buy X get Y* or an automatic discount). Leave the goal empty to turn it off.

## Add-ons

Product suggestions in the cart, with a quick add button.

- **Suggest:** *Products from a collection*, *Products related to the cart*, or *Complementary products for the cart*. Related and complementary products come from Shopify's recommendations for the newest item in the cart and skip what is already in it. Complementary products are set in the **Search & Discovery** app.
- **Add-ons collection:** used for *Products from a collection*, and to fill in when there are no recommendations.

## Gift wrapping

1. Create a product for gift wrapping, for example *Gift wrapping* for $5, with **This is a physical product** turned off if it needs no shipping.
2. Pick it in **Gift wrapping product** and set the **Checkbox label**.

The cart shows a checkbox with your label and the price. Ticking it adds the product; unticking removes it.

## Discount codes

**Discount code field** adds a *Discount code* row to the cart page (default), to both the cart page and the drawer, or nowhere. Shoppers apply and remove codes there. A code that does not apply to the cart, or cannot be combined with the other codes, is shown crossed out with a short explanation. Whether discounts combine is set on each discount in **Discounts**.

## Terms checkbox

**Ask to accept the terms before checkout** adds a checkbox above the checkout button, in the drawer and on the cart page. Link your terms in **Checkbox text**. Checkout and the express payment buttons wait until it is ticked.

> **Note**
>
> The checkbox is a theme feature. Shoppers who go to checkout another way (for example from an express button on the product page) do not see it. If you are legally required to collect consent, check the options in your checkout settings as well.

## Cart page

The Cart section shows the items, the add-ons and **Estimate shipping**: shoppers pick their country and enter a postal code to see your shipping rates before checkout. Add **Text** or **Custom Liquid** blocks for notes such as delivery times. Under it, the default template shows a Featured collection.

**Empty cart button link** in Theme settings > Cart sets where the "Continue shopping" button of an empty cart leads.
