Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about installing, updating and setting up Index, and about getting help.

Buying and installing

Can I try Index before I buy it?

Yes. In the Theme Store, select Try theme to add Index to your theme library. You can customize and preview it as long as you like; you only pay when you publish it. Each preset also has a demo store you can browse: Index (opens an external site), Poster (opens an external site) and Petal (opens an external site).

Can I use Index on more than one store?

A Theme Store purchase is a license for one store. You can keep as many copies of Index as you like in that store's theme library. For another store, buy the theme again in that store.

How do I get a refund?

Theme purchases and refunds are handled by Shopify under the Theme Store terms. Contact Shopify Support for a refund request.

Which preset should I choose?

Pick the one closest to your products: Index for home and general stores with many products, Poster for clothing, Petal for beauty and wellness. Every preset has every feature – only the starting look and home page differ. See Switching presets.

Setting up

Why does my store look different from the demo?

The demo stores use their own products, photos, collections and menus. After installing, connect the sections to your own collections and replace the images. Sections that need content you do not have yet (a blog, reviews, a second collection) show placeholders until you fill them.

How do I change the colors?

Pick a palette in Theme settings › Colors › Color palette. To use your own colors, choose Custom and edit the six color schemes. See Colors and dark mode.

I changed a color scheme but nothing happened.

A palette is selected. While a palette is on, edits to the color schemes are not shown. Choose Custom (color schemes below) in Color palette.

How do I turn off dark mode?

Turn off Let shoppers switch to dark mode in Theme settings › Colors. To keep dark mode but hide the switch in the header, turn off Show light and dark mode switch in the Header section.

Why don't I see filters on my collection pages?

Filters come from Shopify's free Search & Discovery app. Install it and add filters there; also check that Enable filtering is on in the Product grid section. See Filters.

My color swatches show empty rings.

The color names could not be matched to a color. Connect the Color option to the product's Color category metafield and give each value a color. See Color swatches.

Why isn't the language selector showing?

It appears once your store has more than one published language in Settings › Languages. The country selector needs more than one country in Settings › Markets.

How do I add a size guide?

Create a page with the size chart, then add a Side panel block to the product page and pick that page. Or make a Popup with the page content and link to it from anywhere. See Side panel and Popups.

How do I show different content on different products?

Use metafields connected to blocks (for example a collapsible tab with product-specific care instructions), or create a second product template and assign it to some products. See Metafields.

The free shipping bar says one amount, but checkout charges shipping.

The bar only shows a message. Create the free shipping rate itself in Settings › Shipping and delivery with the same minimum order price as Free shipping threshold.

How do I remove "Powered by Shopify"?

It is off by default. You can turn it on or off with Show Powered by Shopify in the Footer section.

Can I add my own fonts?

The theme editor offers the fonts from Shopify's font library, which are fast and properly licensed. Uploading other fonts needs code changes; see Customizing code.

Updates and code

How do I update Index?

When an update is available, Shopify shows it in Online Store › Themes. Updating adds a copy of the new version with your settings and content; publish it when you are happy. See Updating Index.

Will I lose my changes when I update?

Everything you set in the theme editor is kept. Changes made in the code editor are not – they have to be applied again to the new version.

Can you customize the theme for me?

We do not do custom work, so we can keep our support fast for everyone. For changes beyond the theme's settings, we recommend a developer from the Shopify Partner Directory (opens an external site). Ask them to work on a duplicate of your theme.

Is Index fast and accessible?

Index loads only what each page needs, lazy-loads images and video, and keeps scripts small. It is built for keyboard and screen reader users, its palettes pass WCAG contrast checks, and it respects reduced motion. Apps and very large images can still slow a store down, so test after adding them.

Support

How do I contact support?

Use the form on the support page. Include your store's address (your-store.myshopify.com), what you expected and what happened, and a screenshot or screen recording if you can.

How fast will I get an answer?

We reply within 2 business days (Monday to Friday, Central European Time), usually sooner. See the support policy.

What does support cover?

Questions about setting up Index and its features, and bugs in the theme. It does not cover custom code, third-party apps or general store setup. The support policy has the full list.

Do you need access to my store?

Sometimes. If we need to look at your settings, we will send a collaborator request from Shopify, which you approve in Settings › Users. Never send us your password.
